Cities are like memories; they are based on the past but are being constantly constructed (and deconstructed) in the present. What is remembered and what is left behind? And how to excavate the forgotten fragments? Vous êtes ici/You are here is a poetic attempt to overlap the past and the present in urban landscapes. Walking in the city of Montréal, I choose several locations to paste painted recent maps on the walls. Underneath each map is a much older map of the same place. Through the erasure of the present moment and reducing it into bits, I excavate the older maps from beneath and leave them to eventually disintegrate.
